  22. My wife bought me one for my birthday last month.  So far I am very
  23. pleased with it.  One of my favorite features is "program scan auto
  24. memory write".  This feature alows scaning between two scan limits with
  25. all hits saved to memory channels 800-899 (no dups).  There are ten scan
  26. edge pairs for setting up continuous scanning between any two freqs.

  28. Another great feature is the ability to store a "select code" with any
  29. memory channel.  Select codes are "S" (skip) and 0-9.  This allows you
  30. to scann for only select code 3, for example, so that you can categorize
  31. all memories and scan for them easily.  This is important since there
  32. are 900 regular memories plus the ten scan edge pairs.
  33.  
  34. I have no way of judging the sensitivity, selectivity or IMD or the
  35. receiver but I can say it is more sensitive, selective and noise free
  36. than any of my ham band only VHF/UHF equipment. In fact it is my
  37. prefered receiver for 2m and 70cm.

  39. Scan rates, delay times and may other features are programmable from the
  40. front pannel.

  42. It can be programmed to to both a primary scan (simple, normal scan) as
  43. well as a lower priority background scan.  For example, say you want to
  44. scan the VHF areo freqs from say 127-139 MHz to find out what was there
  45. and save any hits to memory while scanning the local trunked police
  46. freqs at 840 MHz.  Simple.  Program in the police freqs in say memories
  47. 100 thru 150.  Program in the scan edges of the areo band into one of
  48. the scan edge pairs.  Then select programed scan with advanced scan
  49. mode.  Presto.  While scanning the police freqs it will do double duty
  50. and check for any activity on the areo bands.  There are five simple
  51. scan modes and three advanced modes.  Duty cycle of the
  52. forground/background scans is, of course, programmable.

  54. The computer interface is the same as previous Icom gear so you can
  55. control up to four receivers from a single computer port.
  56.  
  57. So far the only thing that I have a problem with is a relay cutting in
  58. when it switches above 800MHz (don't know the exact freq).
  59.  
  60. Finally since it is an all mode, continuous coverage receiver, there is
  61. absolutly nothing between 25 and 2000 MHz that you cannot receive.

  63. They are extreeeeemly hard to get hold of.  My wife bought mine through
  64. Grove.  The Icom folks at HAM-COM '92 (Dallas) this weekend said that a
  65. certain US government agency had purchased several thousand of them
  66. because they were so much better than most of the milspec stuff...
